Southeast Saga x Lene Refsgaard

The first Southeast Saga artist collaboration is with my incredibly talented friend Lene Refsgaard from my home-country, Denmark – and I am so excited about this! Lene and I met this summer in Copenhagen (bliss!), and when she showed me her new watercolour paintings I felt really touched. So simple and so complex at the same time. So aesthetically nourishing. So meditative to look at.

Lene told me about her process: a very intuitive one, where she allows for the shapes and colours to guide her. I could feel her passion. Together we decided to experiment with transferring these beautiful pieces of art into handwoven tapestries in collaboration with some of the incredible craftswomen I work with here in Bali and the small island of Nusa Penida.

The first tapestry, hand-painted by Lene Refsgaard and handwoven by Ibu Suwarni in Pejeng is finished – and we are all very excited about the result.

Soon, we will be initiating more tapestries. We cannot wait to share the process and the results with you.
